The Spanish and the Aztecs
The Spanish were the first Europeans to arrive in the New World. Their first encounters with native Americans set the pattern of interaction between the two cultures that would last for centuries. This first contact, besides its deserved reputation for brutality, also began an exchange of plants, animals, ideas and values that continues to affect the world even to this day.
